Tottenham 0-2 Man City: Haaland taps home opener before late penalty
Pep Guardiola's side move back to the top of the Premier League table after a hard-fought victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Erling Haaland scored his 23rd goal of the season to give City the lead in the first half, and Riyad Mahrez doubled the advantage from the penalty spot late on to secure the win.
Tottenham started the game brightly and had the better of the early chances, with Richarlison and Son Heung-min both going close. But City gradually took control of the game and were unlucky not to take the lead when Kevin De Bruyne hit the post in the 20th minute.
The visitors eventually broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when Haaland tapped home a cross from Joao Cancelo. Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris got a hand to the ball, but he could not keep it out.
Tottenham pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but they were unable to create any clear-cut chances. City were content to sit back and defend their lead, and they were able to see out the game without too much trouble.
The win means that City move back to the top of the Premier League table, two points ahead of Arsenal who have a game in hand. Tottenham remain in fourth place, but they are now seven points behind their north London rivals.
