Marchesi Antinori Tignanello: A Legendary Italian Wine Turns 50

A History of Innovation

Marchesi Antinori Tignanello is a legendary Italian wine that has been produced by the Antinori family for over 50 years. First made in 1971, this wine was a groundbreaking departure from the traditional Tuscan wines of the time. Tignanello was one of the first Italian wines to be made with a significant percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, and it quickly became a critical and commercial success.

A Unique Blend

Tignanello is made from a blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are grown in the Tignanello vineyard, a 140-acre parcel of land located in the heart of Tuscany. The vineyard is planted on a variety of soils, including limestone, clay, and gravel. This diversity of soils gives the wine its complex and layered flavor profile.

Aging and Production

The grapes for Tignanello are hand-harvested and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels. This aging process helps to develop the wine's structure and complexity. Tignanello is released two years after the harvest.

Critical Acclaim

Tignanello has received critical acclaim from around the world. Wine Spectator has awarded the wine 95 points, while Robert Parker has given it 94 points. Tignanello has also been named one of the "100 Best Wines in the World" by Wine & Spirits magazine.

A Legacy of Excellence

Tignanello is a testament to the Antinori family's commitment to innovation and quality. This wine has helped to shape the modern Italian wine industry and continues to be one of the most sought-after wines in the world.
